Au pair in Austria

Au pair must be between 18-28 years of age. Aupairs need to obtain a visa/residence permit to work in Austria. The permit is valid for a maximum of 12 months and must be extended after the first 6 months. The host family is required to submit a formal notification of employment and a contract of employment to the Austrian Labor Authorities (AMS) before aupair's visa application.

Contract of employment must detail the conditions of the employment, weekly work hours, accommodations, amount of weekly salary and help with education/language school. Au pairs in Austria usually work for 25 hours a week and receive a weekly pocket money of 240 Euros.

Submission does not have to be made by an authorized au pair agency.

The labor authorities will issue a confirmation authorizing the employment. Au pair can only apply for an Austrian residence permit at an Austrian embassy or consulate.
