Au Pair Insurance

All countries with an aupair program require families to insure their au pair one way or another. Almost always host families are responsible for the cost of the insurance. Some countries allow families to place their au pair under the country's national healthcare system. If there is no national healthcare system available for the aupair, family would need to purchase third-party health insurance. In the US, au pair agencies that handle all the arrangements supply the health insurance and the cost is built into the fees they charge.

If au pair is required to drive a car for her work, sufficient car insurance should be purchased as well. This should be done before any au pair gets behind the wheel. Even if the aupair is a great driver in her/his country, it might be awfully confusing to drive a car in a new country.

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of making sure aupair has sufficient insurance as soon as she or he arrives. Cost of health insurance in some countries is outrageous and even unaffordable for most people. Insurance can save you a lot of headache in case of an illness or accident.
