MVV application
Au pair can start the procedure for an authorisation for temporary stay (MVV) in 2 different ways:
The host family in the Netherlands starts the MVV procedure by means of a request for advice to the IND
au pair applies for the MVV in her country of origin. This is done at a Dutch Embassy or Consulate.
The objective of the request for advice by the host family is to support the MVV application au pair will
subsequently submit to the Embassy. The decision in response to this request for advice is a positive or
negative advice only. Aupair cannot appeal against it.
The application that au pair submits to the embassy is the official application.
Au pair can appeal against a negative decision.
The host family in the Netherlands submits the request for advice on an authorisation for temporary stay (MVV) to the IND
1. The host family requests a form from the IND. This is the form entitled ‘Request for advice on an authorisation for
temporary stay’.
2. The host family completes the form ‘Request for advice on an authorisation for temporary stay’ and returns
it to the IND together with all the required documents.
3. If the IND issues a positive advice, the au pair will apply for the MVV at a Dutch Embassy or Consulate
in her country of origin.
4. Au pair will not be granted an MVV, if au pair or the host family in the Netherlands do not meet
the conditions. Neither will au pair be granted an MVV, if the documents are invalid, incomplete or incorrect.
Au pair cannot appeal against a negative decision.

3. The Embassy or Consulate forwards aupair's application to the IND in the Netherlands.
4. Au pair and her documents must meet all the conditions. Only then will the IND request details and
documents from the host family in the Netherlands.
5. If the IND has issued a positive advice with regard to the application for an MVV, then au pair should contact the
Embassy or the Consulate in her country of origin to collect the MVV.
6. Au pair will not be granted an MVV, if she or her host family in the Netherlands do not meet the conditions.
Neither will au pair be granted an MVV, if the documents are invalid, incomplete or incorrect.

The MVV is a sticker. The Embassy or Consulate will check the au pair's passport and then attach the MVV to her passport.
Au pair has 6 months to collect the MVV. Once the MVV has been attached to her passport, au pair has 6 months
to travel to the Netherlands.
