Au pair in New Zealand

New Zealand does not have an official au pair program. They have Working Holiday arrangements with the following countries:

Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland,
Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, UK

Conditions

1. need to be between the ages of 18-30
2. must not have been in New Zealand before on the same working holiday scheme
3. must not bring children with her/him
4. need to prove that she/he has enough funds to purchase a return ticket

Au pair will also need to meet the health requirements for temporary entry to New Zealand. As a result, she may need to provide a Medical and X-ray Certificate (NZIS 1007) or Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate (NZIS 1096).

Au pair doesn’t need to arrange a job before she gets to New Zealand but she/he can’t take up permanent employment, unless she applies for and is granted a temporary Work Permit.

How do I apply?

Generally, you need to apply for a working holiday scheme Work Visa at a New Zealand Immigration Service office while you’re in your home country. However if you’re from Canada, the Netherlands, Malaysia or Singapore, you can also apply for a working holiday scheme Work Visa if you’re already in New Zealand, if all of the following conditions apply to you:

1. you currently hold a Student or Visitor's Permit
2. you’ve been in New Zealand for 12 months or less
3. you meet the working holiday scheme requirements for your country
