It is highly recommended that you DO NOT WIRE MONEY to any travel agency or anyone you do not know, especially to CAMEROON and NIGERIA.

There are several scammers from these countries trying to defraud people over the Internet using fraudulent checks and Western Union.

Scammers posing as a family offer a high salary to make the job look attractive. They eventually ask for money directly or involve a bogus travel agency to get money claiming that it is needed for the ticket, visa and paperwork.

It is also recommended that you do not provide anyone any sensitive information about yourself such as your bank account number, your passport number or photocopy of your passport, and your social security number. Please use commonsense and caution if you have any suspicion about a user and report it to us immediately.

This is the classic Nigerian scam that is going on all over the Internet. Now, they are targeting the au pair sites. They pose as a family or au pair. They start emailing the users and making arrangements without thoroughly interviewing the candidates. They quickly agree to hire the au pair or accept the job. They send a fraudulent check to the victims to cover the expenses. This check is printed by them and has no value. After a short while, they change their mind about the arrangement they were making with you and ask you to wire them the money back. This is how they try to scam people. They rush their victims to wire them the non existent money they sent. We recommend that you DO NOT WIRE ANY MONEY to them under any circumstances.

I recently recieved an email from a Mark Kennebeck requesting an aupair for august 2005. I found that the information in the email he sent to me and the information in his profile did not match. I searched the name on the internet and found it to be one of the many alias in an elaborate crime ring trying to scam money out of possible aupairs.

I recieved email from John Williams and this is what he said on my email... This is John Williams From New York.I am a new member here and i saw your profile and i am very interested in you beeing my daughter Jennifer Nanny .I will like to hire your service to take care of my Daughter Jennifer for November 2 to December 10 and you will be staying with her for 1 and half month because i will be travelling to the uk for the charity home aniversary donation and is mummy will be going to office and she is a nurse and there is no one to look after her for me,she is aged 7 years old,and i need you for a period of 1 and half Month from august 25th to september 31 2005 and you will be required to live in our residence during this period as i will be away for business proposals.We will like you to come for interview on august 22 and I will be paying you $500.00 per week and you will be working 7 hours every day monday to friday and i have a car available for you and personal bedroom and toilet.Please email me your rates for the specified 1 and half moth,travelling charges and i will want you to know that your accomodation and feeding will be adequately taken care of by my wife and i and we will do our best to make your stay at our home a worthwhile one.Home address is-839 ashland ave,brooklyn NY,55104 and a check will be mail to you by my company which i will have made out to you as soon as possible.Also,email me your full Names,Address,cell Phone Number and telepehone number where to mail the check for the payment and if you need any other info you can call me on my Intl cell phone number +2348028575229 Waiting to read from you soon. Andrea Sylvia, au pair from Cameroon
We worked with her and her parent over the phone, everything seemed genuine and legitimate about them. We paid them around $3000.00 for her visa and immigration fees. Sylvia was supposed to arrive to the U.S. last week on 1/13/05. We haven't seen or heard from her as of 1/23/05. All the phone numbers they gave us in Cameron are disconnected. They stole our money and disappeared of the face of the earth.

Several Au Pairs from Cameroon have tried to get "Air Ticket" wired to them . Many have tried that on me using many names or combinations of same name (Christina, Ayuk, etc) They all have same message on all the web sites ( They have US 2YR VISA already and are ready to travel immediately. But they have already paid deposit of "most" of the money to a local travel Agent. You just have to wire the money to "cover" the balance. The "father" Prof will call the family to show concerns. The phone lines are NEVER answered again once you send the money) Please advice the Family never to wire CASH for Ticket abroad. What I do is pay for a refundable ticket DIRECT to the Airline so I get my money if they do not come. The Fraudulent Au Pair will not let you pay directly to the Air Line.

Gemma Stevens would start as our aupair last Monday. however, the evening before, she let us know NOT to do it, because she did not like the room we had been hired for her and finally she did not think she could handle 3 kids while not speaking the Dutch language. We've never been so badly surprised! We've prepared everything very carefully with her, discussed everything in advance, she agreed with it and she even met a few months before our family incl. kids when she was in Holland. She knew that she had to sleep in another house/room, the first 6 month, while we are busy with building an extra floor (also with a room for her) on our house. It was a nice student house, very close to our's in a nice street, with friendly students. But gemma thought the toilet and shower, which she had to share with 4 others, was not proper enough (till then she was still living at her parents place...). We arranged a dutch course for her whith which she could strat learning Dutch immediately. And only from September, till that time I'm free to help her with taking care of the kids, she would be alone for 3 days with 2 kids, because the oldest is then going to school... After she had dinner with us at Sunday evening, my husband brought her with her bike to her place. Till then we were very happy with her and thouhgt she felt the same about us and the whole arrangement. But after nearly 10 minutes she called us by phone, from the place of the parents of her Dutch boy friend, who are living close to our place, to tell us the bad news. Within 3 weeks we're expecting our third child.......

Evija came to Holland with het girlfriend Signe and their only reason to come was to party, to go out and to meet boys. She went out about 3 days per week, coming in the next morning at 6 'o clock, not showing any interest in our family or living up to her responsability's. During the day she mainly stayed in bed or went outside. She made promises of which she didn't keep one! One of those promises she made cost us 600 euro's (she promised to go with us on holiday so I bought her a ticket). She took full disadvantage of our hospitality and lied to us on several occasions and I have indications that she was also using drugs. Then she suddenly went on vacation to her homecountry (promising to come back in 2 weeks) and decided there to never come back, leaving us with a big problem !

The reason why we for applied for your website was that we spotted an au pair from Romania (Olimpia Georgiana Foltean, member # 54010) with an attractive profile (she loves children and that’s all about). We got in contact with her and she told us being very un-happy with her current assignment in Dijon because she had to share her room and bed with the 2 children she is taking care of. That is indeed not a proper lodging. We agreed that she would come to us and we mutually agreed to inform the French family with a 2 week notice period so they could look for an alternative. We managed to extent the stay of our current au pair with one week and anticipating Georgiana’s arrival, we changed school for our son of 4. A week before her scheduled arrival I did not get any response on my e-mails and the phone was not answered, and finally, may be not surprisingly, she did not show up at the agreed date without notifying us. What a disappointment and what a problems this causes! First we were worried that something happened with her, but I noted from your web site that her last log-in date is the day before her scheduled arrival, so she could still access the internet apparently (an thus answer one of my numerous e-mails). It goes without saying that we were in big trouble as we did not have anybody to take care of our kids. It’s not a problem that you change your mind as long you notify each-other but making promises giving expectations is really not done and shows dis-respect and is a sign of being very, very irresponsible. I think it is good to have this message somewhere posted on your website warning other people that Olimpia Georgiana Foltean is not reliable for making appointments.

I wanna let you konw that i had a very bad experience as a au-pair with a family in florida usa. There member id number is 49586. I worked for them almost 3 months the fired me last friday and my return date to go home is 16 february. Till that time i can stay with the neigbours. The told me before i came that i can use a car,that i live close to the beach,that there was a lot to do. Nothing of that was true. And the day that i arrived i heared from the nanny before me that the lady i work for is pregnant she didn't told me about that. After a couple of weeks i get email from the best friend from the lady i worked for that i need to change things and that my behaviors are bad. But i didn't do anything wrong so asked about it and the say thats not true don't believe her but she knows things thats she only can know from the lady that i worked for. The continue don't tell the truth to me and the reason that the fired me was that i wanted to share the room with the new nanny she is her from last friday,the day that the kicked me out of the house. But i asked earlier that week if it was ok that i wanted to share the room and that was not a problem. And then the tell me that that was the reason that the fired me,and that i used the computer at the moment that the fired me but the mother of the kids was at home at that moment and the deal was when one of the parents is home you're of. But the already planned it because that best friend came in the house friday and she told me that i was fired not the lady i worked for. And the nanny before me she was the first nanny for them the gave her a letter after a couple of weeks that she can't use the internet anymore the phone,needs to be at home at 10 oclock in the evening. And they didn't pay her her ticket money back. So she had a bad experience to. And the new nanny now they didn't tell her that she is pregnant and her dueday is 14th of february. And told her the same lies that they told to me. I hope you understand my email its a strange and long story.

A1 Kids Care Aupair Agency and Ana Maria Uruioc, au pair from Romania
I paid almost 400 pounds to A1 KidsCare Aupair Agency to find me a long term Aupair. They matched me with a 28 year old Romanian girl called Ana Maria Uruioc. Ana arrived and immediately we discovered she had lied on the application form and was taking the au pair position just to get away from her husband whom she was having martial problems with. We decided we would hold up our end of the bargain and accommodated Ana as best we could. Ana stayed with us for 4 weeks and then decided she was not able for the position as she had no previous childcare experience and would get very stressed if our 2 year old cried (as they all do!!!).
I immediately notified the A1 KidsCare Agency of Ana's decision to leave and they said they would try to place her elsewhere. I advised them that she had no experience with kids and in fact had no way with them at all so she would best be placed in a positon with teenage kids. They also informed me that they would fine another au pair for us.
Later during the week Ana decided she wanted to go to London as she had many friends there and would like to leave us immediately I again contacted the Agency and they basically accused me of mistreating Ana. I of course became defensive and I inquired them how they had matched me up with Ana and why her application form was not truthful. They informed me that she came from their Polish office and that they in fact had not vetted her at all. I told them I did not want another person from their Agency for obvious reasons......
I think this is just scandalous, very unprofessional and darn right dangerous. I have on many occasions reqested my money back and have not received it and have not even received an appology from them.
I would like families to know how unprofessinoal this Agency is and they should not rely on the Agency for anything other than a phone number of a perspective person as they do not interview or question the candidates they represent.

Then she took our 10 month old baby into the city without even telling us and I caught her down there! Unbelievable. She is also very dishonest about her whereabouts and I’m afraid she is not serious about Child Care and only has interest in the opposite sex, if you know what I mean.
