J-1 visa is the type of US visa issued for aupairs who want to work in the USA. US au pair program is managed by government-approved agencies. Only these designated agencies can organize the paperwork for the J-1 aupair visa.

Au pairs can apply for J-1 visa at the US embassy or consulate in their home country. In order to be able to apply for the visa, aupair would need to register with a cooperating au pair agency in her country. The cooperating agencies work with the US agencies to prepare the paperwork and coordinate everything from screening the aupairs to the travel arrangements. Au pair would pay the applicable fees for this service directly to this agency.
